Glass Blowing Studio visits Fox Creek for the 1st Time & A Fun-Filled day of Activities
Thank you to Leslie Ann Sharkey for the submission and photos
Friday, Sept. 9 saw glass blowers, Mandy Patchin and Kai Scholofield from Calgary giving demonstrations for our students out of their mobile glass blowing studio. The truck, outfitted for glass blowing is a first in Canada and we were fortunate to have them in Fox Creek.
After the Fun Run on Saturday, Sept. 10th they were kept busy as the community took part in Creation Location: Assembly Required. Several people from Fox Creek and two who had driven from Whitecourt were able to try their hand at playing with glass.
Mandy and Kai loaded up the hot glass and gave instructions on how to make a glass rose. Although some turned out looking a bit like a mushroom and others were stemless, all who took part enjoyed it.
The school hallways and small gym were filled with activities for children, teens and adults. From scarecrows and make do cardboard creations to painted birch signs and cartoon drawing, there was something for everyone.
Velum forests and acrylic painting were popular as was the workshop on spring roll making. Carving, tile mosaics, crayon dripping, Zentangle, Japanese cherry blossoms and a scrap book project were also part of the activities.
The day provided an opportunity for the Fox Creek for the Children Society to provide a BBQ by donation. By all accounts it was quite successful.
Thanks to all the artists who shared their expertise and to the helpers and organizers. We could not have done it without you.
Thank you to the financial supporters as well, the Town of Fox Creek, the Fox Creek School Parent Council, The Fox Creek Community Resource Centre and the Fox Creek Municipal Library. Thank you to Timber Ridge for the rooms.
Thank you to the Fox Creek School for encouraging and allowing all this to happen at the school and in the parking lot.
