The annual highland dance recital, held on June 1st was an amazing display from Nancy Gibbons’ students.
It was a chance for parents, family, friends and neighbors to sit back and watch what the dancers learned all year. The group entertained the large audience with their talents, costumes and music.
New this year, Mrs. Gibbons collected donations for the Fox Creek Fire Department and raised $780.
Performances included: beginner highland steps, a solo, duet and a trio, sword dance, Tartan Fun, an Irish Jig, the Traditional Irish, Scottish National, Highland Fling, Seann Truibhas, Cake Walk, Sailors Hornpipe,Highland Frolics, Pas de Bas, and Highland Laddie.
President of the Highland Dance Club, Dawn MacKay presented Mrs. Gibbons, a dance teacher for over 30 years, a gift at the end of the performances. All of the dancers received a flower.
Next, the dancers will attend competitions in the future, including the annual Highland Games in Grande Prairie on June 11 & 12. Good Luck dancers!
“You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less traveled instead of the well-beaten path.
Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though EVERYBODY is watching. March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in.” ― Mandy Hale
