Smiles were wide and excitement was high, as many kids were meeting up at the diamonds regularly after school, tossing the ball to each other, practicing batting and playing a fun game, all well patiently anticipating their practices to begin!
For the first time in over 25 years, a Minor Ball league has been formed in Fox Creek; with planned games against other communities, uniforms to wear and practices twice a week.
Over 125 kids registered, from four years to 15 year olds. Practices started last week.
There are two TimBits teams (beginners/learn to play), a Rookie Bandits team, Junior Bandits and Banditos (girls) teams and a Senior Bandits and Banditos team.
It would not be possible without 25 coaches, who stepped up to volunteers the kids. Parents are very impressed with many of them young adults with a dedicated interest in helping the community and supporting the kids, regardless of being a parent themselves.
And of course, the volunteer board that was formed to hit the ball out of the diamonds and organize the league. President is Kiley Shepherd, Vice President is Karen Couglin, Secretary is Sam Burridge, Treasurer is Lena Young and Fundraising Committee Chairperson is Megan Wiltse. You can find more information on their Facebook page – Fox Creek Minor Ball.
The ball diamonds are active every night of the week.
Slo-Pitch Association has 10 teams this year and practices began April 18. Their annual tournament is set for the June 3- 5 weekend. The board consists of President is Chace Lamb, Vice President is Brett Lamb Vice, Treasurer is Charity Chwok, Secretary is Kelsey Kreller and Zach Weiten and Sam Burridge are Directors. An organized clean up of the diamonds was held on Sunday, April 17 between the Minor Ball League and Slo-Pitch teams. It took less than an hour to spiffy up the area, due to the large amount of helpful hands and Aunty Barb Jantz regularly cleaning the area prior.
