Scouts Hall Kitchen Renos, Thanks to Oil Companies Donations

| April 13, 2016

The newly renovated kitchen at the Scouts Hall, Thanks to the support of oil and gas companies and volunteer hands.

The extensive renovations at the Scouts Hall have been ongoing for the past year. In December 2015, and January 1st Fox Creek Scouts received very generous donations from Chevron ($5000) and Encana ($3000), allowing the group to order everything they needed to complete the kitchen (including cabinets, countertop and other finishes).

“We’re lucky to live in a community where local companies support our group every year in various ways,” said one of the many dedicated volunteers, Jenn Ashmore.

In February, a group of dedicated volunteers started putting the kitchen together. They enclosed the staircase in order to have more wall space for additional cupboards. The ceiling was replaced and new lighting was installed. The cabinets were assembled and installed and countertops completed.

Still to be done is the backsplash and the microwave/hood fan installation and a few small things to work on, but for the most part the kitchen is useable.

The club’s plans for the next few years are to have a mural painted on the backside of the hall, put up new siding in the front and replace the shingles. They would also like to have a gas insert put into the fireplace so that can be used again and a wall mount tv.

1st Fox Creek Scouts volunteers, parents, kids and leaders, met with Jennifer Wierzbicki, Public Affairs Advisor from Chevron Canada to view the renovations at the Scouts Hall.
