Whats happening at the library these days?

Library News

Happy New Year everyone! Are you ready for some great reading and a terrific contest? We have both for every age at the library.

Annual Basket of Books Contest

January 27 is Family Literacy Day and to celebrate the library has once again partnered with the Community Resource Centre to bring you the Basket of Books Contest. Every book you read (at your reading level) entitles you to an entry into the contest to win a selection of books, games and other wonderful items. The contest will run throughout January with draws being made at the elementary assembly January 26. Read your books and come into the library to enter to win. There are five prizes to be won, Preschool, Grades 1 3, Grades 4 6, Grades 7 12 and Adult. These prizes are on display at the library.

New Art Exhibit

Come in and view our latest art exhibit, Bird Frieze, with two and three dimensional tiles and sculptures created by Red Deer artists, Dawn Detarando and Brian McArthur. Influenced by the outdoors, these sculptures are made of porcelain (commonly known as china) which involves a precise forming process with drying and firing stages, as in ceramics. From bird nests on chain saws to bird feet and trees, from sunflowers to the bird watcher, these are delightful pieces, sure to bring a smile to your face. The pieces will be on display until January 18.

The library is still looking for used T-shirts to be cut up to make rugs during our Blast From the Past next month. If you are cleaning out your closets and have any you are willing to part with we will be happy to take them off your hands. Just drop them off at the library or give us a call and we will make arrangements to pick them up. 780-622-2343.
