A team achievement and Mixed Seniors Command Provincial title was earned, for six local dart players and Fox Creek’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch #280.

Fox Creek’s Dart team, nicknamed the Fox Creek Fossils, competed among 18 teams, from every Legion district in Alberta as well as teams ranging from Yellowknife to Lethbridge, the weekend of Feb. 28th in Ponoka.

The team played three games versus each team, a total of 17 matches. It came down to the last match of the tournament, Fox Creek against Ponoka, winning 37-36 points.

“This is a huge accomplishment, considering the competition,” said Jim Edwards.

The team would like to extend their appreciation to Waye and Sons for the personalized shirts.

Prior, the Royal Canadian Legion #280 hosted their own District Dart tournaments Jan. 10th in three categories: Seniors, Mixed and Legions.

Teams from all events went on to Provincials – Mixed was in Cold Lake, Legions in Jasper and Seniors in Ponoka. Unfortunately, Fox Creek’s Legion and Mixed teams were not as successful as the Senior team.

The top two teams from each event went to represent their Legion at Provincials.

“I believe this could be a first provincial title to be won by our branch,” said President of the Royal Canadian Legion #280, Lisa Peterson.

Dart night at the Royal Canadian Legion #280 branch continues weekly: Monday-Men’s, Tuesday-Ladies and Thursday mixed. Royal Canadian Legion #280 dart finals are coming up in April.

Related note, Update: Jim Edwards, a dart player on Team Alberta, heading to Nationals in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 10-13, is grateful for the sponsorship from Rival Trucking, New Adventure, 3 Boys and Trilogy Energy.

Good luck to Jim as he participates in the ‘Greater Vancouver Open Darts Tournament’ in Vancouver, British Columbia this weekend.
