Fox Creek School’s Cheerleading Team display their ‘Total Spirit’ at their 1st Alberta Cheerleading Championship
The energy was exhilarating, their teamwork was displayed, at its best, and the spirits were soaring, at the West Edmonton Mall on Saturday, March 8th.
Flames Cheerleading Team, part of the CHAMP (Choosing Healthy Attitudes Modeling Pals) Team program at the Fox Creek School (F.C.S), competed in their first Cheerleading competition!
The Flames Cheerleading team earned 6th place at the ‘Total Spirit’ Alberta Cheerleading Championship competition. There were over 200 teams in this competition in total, from all areas of Canada, in all different levels and age categories.
F.C.S performed their routine in the Junior Division #1 category, among 9 different schools, from Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Athabasca and many more.
“It was so awesome! We are so proud of them,” said Coach Michelle Pigeon.
The F.C.S team consists of 16 girls and one young man, from Grades 6-9. Volunteer Coaches are Miss Amy Stroud/CHAMP Coach and Gymnastics Coach, Miss Michelle Pigeon/Basketball Coach and Grade one teacher and Assistant Coach, Teacher Miss Alison Compton.
The Cheerleaders are: Raquel Osborne, Cayley McGinty, Faith MacKay, Teri Kennedy-Flynn, Elaina Adamson, Chelsea Zwarich, Sarah Norman, Sydney Sather, Isaiah Lewis, Sydney Kennedy-Flynn, Megan Chambers, Gabrialle Shepherd, Janelle Bedson, Desiree Tyson, Elizabeth Duff, Daintrie Davidson and Bailey Johnston.
“We are so proud! They did amazing!” said Coach, Amy Stroud.
Cheerleading warm-up started at 9 am and competition was at 10:25 am at the Ice Palace area. The team traveled together to the city on Friday, enjoyed a team supper at the Old Spaghetti Factory, embraced watching other cheerleaders perform at WEM and then stayed together at a host hotel.
In the early morning on Saturday, the team prepared for the event, suited in their new uniforms, decorative and personalized hair bows, glittered hair curled in locks and up in ponytails and make-up applied.
Many supporters, family and friends attended, including Principal Egbert Stang and several other teachers were present, to cheer the team on.
The Flames Cheerleading team has been practicing three times a week for the past three months and most recently on weekends. This is the first cheerleading team for Fox Creek School, thanks to coaches stepping forward, and their perseverance.
F.C.S generously covered the fee for the team to register with Alberta Cheerleading Association. Thanks to sponsors, the team was suited in uniforms and accommodations were paid for. Parents willingly drove the participants.
The team would like to extend their gratitude to the following generous supporters: Grant MacKay/Northwest Trucking and Mechanical, Steve McPhee/Longhorn Oilfield Services, Fox Creek Gymnastics, The CHAMP Team and Fox Creek School.
“These athletes have worked so hard and it clearly paid off. They are very committed to the team, and each other, and have become a family in the process – always encouraging their teammates and friends,” said their Coaches.
Way to Go Cheerleading Team!
