Art + Youth @ Skate Park = Canvas

| September 18, 2013
The popular skate park is forever marked with personalized artwork, neon colors and unique drawings from youths.

The first, Leave your Mark – Youth Canvas Project on Saturday, Sept. 14, was a dynamically bright hit with over 15 kids attending from ages of 7 – 21 years.

A few afternoon hours were designated for the project, approved by Mayor and Town Council at the August town council meeting.

“I think the event went well – we had a good turn out, and it was wonderful to see the youth express themselves artistically and make the space their own,” said Abigail Fougere, Youth Facilitator for the Town of Fox Creek.

The paint was provided by the Community Resource Centre and the skills by the youths themselves.

“It’s fun,” said one youth, Dakota North.

The special project provided the youth a piece of ownership, pride and creative expression; adding color, conversation and clarity to the skate park.

Kevin Burke said “It’s really cool!”

“I’d like to put forth a special thanks to: the Mayor and town council for allowing the youth to decorate the concrete pad,  the CHAMP team for providing me with some stencils for the youth to use and volunteer Riley Abramyk for providing music, engaging with the kids and contributing artistically to the park as well,” said Abigail.
