A Moment of Silence

| May 26, 2013
Neither the cold, rainy weather or rescheduling a day earlier, dampened the spirits of 50 golfers for the annual Royal Canadian Legion branch #280 golf tournament, held Friday evening, May 24 at Silver Birch Golf club.

Organized by Legion treasurer, Len Pierrard, and President, Lisa Peterson, both were very pleased with the turn out. The donated door prizes enabled every golfer to go home with a gift. Supper was catered by Rudy’s Snack Shack.

Len asked everyone to bow their heads in memory of Comrade Bob Marple for a moment of silence.

Lisa recited the following message:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning.

We will Remember them.
We will Remember them.

She also added: As we assemble to solemnly remember and to pay our respects to the life of our Comrade Bob Marple, whose death we mourn, but whose spirit still lives, may we, as citizens and members of The Royal Canadian Legion, be charged anew with the full sense of our duties and responsibilities to our country and our organization.

May we ever strive to uphold the principles of unselfish service which led us to serve our God and our country in time of war and in peace, so that we may continue to serve, even unto death.

O God, we remember before you those who laid down their lives for freedom and truth. We commend their souls into your gracious keeping and pray that we may be worthy of their sacrifice.

Help us to be faithful and true to those ideals for which they fought and died.

May we continue to perpetuate the memory of our departed comrades by our service to country, community and comrades, and remembering our solemn obligation, may we ever pray -Lord God of Hosts; Be with us yet.

Lest we forget; Lest we forget.
Rest in Peace Comrade Bob.
