Full of Color, Legends & Everything Neon

| September 12, 2012
Hours and hours of planning, prepping, creating and adding the final touches to the Youth Council’s summer project, were unveiled on August 31 at the former RCMP building.

The building, now utilized for extra space for the Community Resource Centre’s programming is undergoing many bright changes.

Youth Summer Coordinator, Oksana Atwood explained, donated supplies and discounted paint, mixed with imagination, determination and music, resulted in a 3 by 8.5 metres ( 27 by 9 ft) mural over 60 days.

“After a summer of map and mythmaking with the kids, we discovered Fox Creek is full of color, monsters, legends, cartoons, sparkles, and everything neon,” said Oksana.

The masterpiece is an abstract map of the Town of Fox Creek, including the Fox logo, a magnetic wipe board and QR code (Quick Response Code). QR codes are used to take a piece of information from a transitory media and put it in to your cell phone.

“You can now scan your smartphone to bring you here and keep posted about the latest youth events every time you visit,” said Youth Council Representative Brooke Peterson.

Oksana welcomed Brooke as the new Youth Council Representative.

“It is very exciting,” said 15 year old Brooke.

She will be representing youths, ages 13-18,  in our community and will help other youths to volunteer, get work experience and have fun!

Youth Council meet on Weds. at the school. The first session is at noon on Sept. 19.

Brooke said, “Bring your lunch for your rumbly tumblies, a bright white/light colored t-shirt to create your own custom tees and your thinking caps.”
