The Alberta Justice Court convened Monday, July 23. Judge M.B Golden presided. Duty Counsel, Mr. Smith and Crown, Attorney Steven Hingley attended.

Scheduled to appear: 48 adults were facing 116 charges;  57 of those charges involve 23 people making their first appearances. Four youths were facing charges and 6 adults were scheduled for trial.

In a total of 43 traffic tickets, 25 were for speeding, 12 warrants were issued and 3 tickets were quashed.

Probation

Aaron Bradley was served a 12 month probation order, with statutory terms; keep the peace, attend counseling and treatment as directed by the probation officer, following a ‘domestic dispute and assault charge.’

Patrick Chambers was granted a 18 month probation, facing a criminal harassment, uttering threat charge and ‘failing to comply undertaking a court document.’

Fines

Tyler Brown was fined $115 for a charge of ‘improper disposal of waste on public land.’

Darcy Nelson was served a $1500 fine, granted until Oct. 31 to pay and the Judge suspended his driver’s license for one year, for driving over the legal limit. He can apply for the interlock system after three months.

Michael Lahti was fined $500 for transferring a firearm without authorization and granted until Jan. 30, 2013 to pay.

Michael Cornelsen was fined $230 for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and granted until Aug. 31 to pay.

Chad Devaux was convicted in absence for two speeding tickets; the first from Whitecourt’s Integrated Traffic Unit, a fine of $177 for driving 148 km per hour in a 110 km zone. The second fine, Fox Creek RCMP clocked Devaux driving 174 km per hour, in a 110 km zone, seven kilometers north of town. The Judge served him a $750 fine and suspended his driver’s license for 120 days, granting until Dec. 31 to pay.

The next Provincial Court date is Aug. 27.
