The Summer Sports board started this year from a few years absence. The new board organized ball hockey, soccer and baseball, from the end of April to the end of June. Volunteer coaches stepped up to bring summer sports back to the community.
Vice President Scott Rycroft said, “It all worked out good and we look forward to next year.”
Coaching close to 100 kids in all three sports were:
Ball hockey – Don and Diane Sather, Jeff and Jennifer Taylor, Troy Waye.
Baseball – Scott Rycroft, Ian and Charity Chwok, Brandi Bedson, Tammy Roe, Sheila Gilmour, Andrew Slocum, Don Hailes.
Soccer – Stewart MacAskill, Janet Baldwin, Jason Fewer and Jeff Taylor.
“We had a good turnout and would not have been able to do it without the volunteer coaches.” said Scott.
Rain dampened practice days for the ball and soccer players a few weeks, but many new skills were learned, fun was plentiful and the look on the kids’ faces when they hit the ball for the first time, or kicked the soccer ball or made a goal, won’t soon be forgotten.
