As yet another school year draws to a close, let us take a moment to reflect on the abundant celebrations and successes of the 2011-2012 school year.

The incredible efforts of the Trilogy Fundraising Project launched one year ago realized the purchase and installation of 20 Smartboards and document cameras to equip every classroom, a Smart Response System, 52 laptops, 115 ipads, and 9 charging and syncing stations. These purchases significantly enhance the technological devices and learning opportunities available for students at Fox Creek School. This amazing endeavour was only made possible through the extremely generous donations from local businesses and tireless efforts of the Society for the Children of Fox Creek to whom abundant gratitude is extended.

Similarly, the BP Energy funded solar powered “Re-Juiced Beetle” and “Food for Thought” greenhouse have put Fox Creek on the map. These projects, being the byproduct of dedicated staff and students being chosen to attend the Inside Education Summit for the second consecutive year, were selected to participate in the Education Week Showcase at Division Office. Recognized by the University of Calgary, its Solar Car Team was sent to Fox Creek to challenge our “Beetle” to a race. The event brought school and community together cheering on the Beetle and a very fun day was had by all!

Numerous student assembly presentations in conjunction with various community partners and outside agencies such as the RCMP, CHAMPS, Community Resource Centre, and Inside Education addressed topics such as community, citizenship, personal well being, and appreciation of the uniqueness within everyone and in our surroundings. Our students were presented with multiple opportunities for enriching cultural awareness, through the possibility of being invited to campouts, pow wows, and arts productions at the Citadel.

Students’ Council worked hard to provide several school dances and many enjoyable activities to round out student life. Monthly elementary assemblies recognized the special accomplishments of many and year-end fieldtrips offered a range of extended experiences for the young children.

Our School Exposition was a brief window into the possibilities that our students bring to life.  It is not without the dedication and support of everyone in this community that Fox Creek School is the special and terrific place it is to learn and grow. In closing, everyone is wished a most enjoyable and safe summer.

We look forward to seeing everyone on September 4th and all the wonderful events and happenings that are sure to make next year as great as this one was. Thank you to everyone!

– Mrs. Gwen Bestard
