Come Hell or High Water

Athabasca River Raft races event, held the first weekend in June attracted 11 entries.

The race, themed ‘Come Hell or High Water’, first started over 40 years ago between two logging companies.

The participants and their boats, hand-crafted rafts, kayaks and inflatables, started at the Amoco Bridge off Highway 43, down the 947 road (14 km southeast of Fox Creek) and raced down the Athabasca River to the finish line at the Chevron Bridge, also on the 947 road.

The winners were:

Open Class

1st – SS Ber-Mac (two hours and 29 minutes)

2nd – 5 Star

3rd - The Great Va-Jay Jay

4th – Spider

5th – Raaawr

Inflatable Class

1st – Doering Gang (two hours and 46 minutes)

2nd – Bentley #2

3rd – Bentley #1

Kayak Class

1st – Don Davis (two hours and 27 minutes)

2nd – Jeremy Coulson

3rd – Mike Ransom
