If you come across a downed powerline:

  1. Keep back a minimum of 10 meters (33 feet) from the wires or anything in contact with the wires.
  2. Shuffle Or Hop, Don’t Step If you are close to the downed line, shuffle or hop, do not step. Never allow the heel of one foot to move beyond the toe of the other.  Hop with both feet together to a minimum distance of 10 meters or 33 feet clear of the line.
  3. Contact local emergency services.
  4. If someone is injured in an electrical accident and still in contact with the electrical source do not touch them.   Keep everyone back a minimum distance of 10 meters or 33 feet and have someone call for help immediately.
